On the farm we are on a journey into regenerative agriculture. This transition into regenerative agriculture means that we will focus on soil regeneration, increasing biodiversity, improving water up cycle, enhancing the ecosystem and increasing resilience to climate change. We will no longer use a one system fits all to our cultivation strategy of the fields. We will instead use a more targeted approach. We are aiming to not disturb the soil and let our plant roots (both cash crops and cover crops) do some of the sub surface structuring, and only low disturbance subsoil as necessary. This will reduce our fuel usage, stop carbon from leaving the soil, our cover crops will capture and store carbon in the soil, and it also allows us to take better advantage of weather patterns, leaving our soils in a more resilient state, capable of buffering against extremes of both wet and dry weather. In wet periods, this will help to increase the time for intense rainfall water to be held on our land, reducing the pressure on local watercourses.

Part of this journey is going to require a restructuring of machinery on the farm, with less horse power required and more specialised drilling machinery. We have been very fortunate to have been accepted into the LEADER grant scheme, that will assist us in the purchase of a new Horsch Avatar 12.25SD seed drill. This new drill is going to be a key piece in our armoury as we head into a new era of farming.

Please keep following our progress when we post updates of our journey.
